Digimon Adventure Episode 16

Mimi asks an attendant for advice but he only says a line about not breaking any bills. A giant eye appears, which Agumon attacks. As Persona as Digimon usually gets, this is a pretty Persona episode.
Because of this episode and the mistakes that Tai made therein, we now know ta lot more about how Digivolution works. Not only must a Digimon have energy to Digivolve, but if they have eaten too much they may be sluggish and ineffective once they do (as was Greymon because of all the food Tai made him eat before he Digivolved). We know that it takes more than a little bit of danger to get a Digimon to Digivolve from Champion to Ultimate. We also know that one cannot put oneself in danger purposefully to get their Digimon partner to Digivolve, because this is an act in bad faith that will only channel dark energy into the Digimon who will then rampage and potentially harm their own Digidestined partner. It also seems that after an Ultimate level Digivolution, a Digimon reverts back to its in-training form as did Skullgreymon who turned into Koromon instead of Agumon. However, this may have only occurred because of the illicit circumstances under which the Digivolution took place.
In this episode of Digimon Digital Monsters, Tai learns that being too gung-ho and forgetting to work together and share resources with his fellow Digidestined and their Digimon can lead to serious consequences. He learns that being too courageous errs on the side of stupidity and foolhardiness and that there is a golden mean that guides appropriate action. What he and the rest of his friends did not learn, however, was how to Digivolve to the next level. And although they have managed to escape the lackeys of Etemon this time around, next time they may not be so lucky.
So then this week's episode theoretically deals with the kids ending up somewhere very familiar to them which ironically leaves us as viewers in that sweet, sweet uncharted territory. Mid-series temporary trips back to the Real World are another staple of Digimon seasons, but this one isn't quite that, standing apart from entries like the 21st episode of the original series (Times I've mentioned that Mamoru Hosoda episode now: 2) or the 22nd episode of Digimon Frontier. More than anything to do with showing how the Chosen Ones could interact with their world at this stage in their journey, the story here is more about the idea of going home at this point, and how they'd react to the situation if it were actually real, which this immediately obviously is not.
As I mentioned earlier, apart from that fresh plotting, this episode's also making way to work in some new ideas for the show. It uses this reboot's established unique setup to explore some new angles about these versions of the kids and their motives. They've ostensibly been exploring the Digital World of their own free will, specifically out to save their world from the disastrous power outage; like so many these days, these Chosen Children feel like they have way more responsibilities on their plate than in the carefree yesteryears. So there's the possibility that, job to do or not, they're harboring a homesick desire to return to their own world away from that daunting task, and this setting is tailor-made to draw that out. Being the one who wears her feelings on her sleeve, Mimi is the primary window through which we see this viewpoint. There's almost a tinge of sadness to her embracing of this increasingly-wrong world as it goes on, her desire to be home and free of all that digital madness so desperate that she's willing to believe any simulacrum of her world. She's the most vocal about it, but you can see the fleeting hope in Taichi and Koshiro as well, in how they prioritize splitting up and going to their own homes apart from any other investigation of the situation, boneheaded move as that may be (hey, they are still kids).
It's likely the comparison to the problem-plagued previous batch of episodes talking with all the praise I have for this one, but it really does work. And all that's before we get to the step-up in action and spectacle. The animation in this episode really picks up for the first time in weeks once the Digimon combat gets going, as it should since, surprise, this is actually bringing us the climactic reunion of the disparate data squads against the enemy supposedly causing the blackout. So we get this massive multi-monster crew battling a new antagonist we haven't seen before, and the result coming off all that atmospheric exercise is the show feeling like it's come to life in a way not unlike those original three episodes. That it caps off with another shocker, the out-of-nowhere appearance of Orochimon, embodies the feeling I had all through this episode that made it so entertaining: I have no idea what Digimon Adventure: is doing right now, and I love it for that.
Greetings my sweet Island Guests, the animini cocktail shot we will serve you today is two parts delusion, a dash of Groundhog day with a healthy splash of epic reunions. A strong episode of a strong series so far, yet the taste is a bit washed out by using some tropes a bit too much! Luckily the Dr Strange like action made up for a lot.
The boys finally discover their train is looping as well and they get out. They find themselves in seemingly shrinking station loops happening more frequently. Relying on Greymon the group manages to collapse some of the area they are in and get out. While it still looks like Tokyo the presence of a Digimon, who is scattered all around makes them realise they are still in the Digital world. A champion level Digimon called Eyesmon has copied it and can use it as his weapons to fight the Chosen ones. He proves to be such a formidable foe that even in their ultimate forms the digimon of our three heroes do not stand a chance. Just when Eyesmon hurls three oil tankers at Metalgreymon, Lillymon and Atlurkabuterimon, they are held at bay by Garduamon, Zudomon comes in carrying Weregarurumon and destroys the tankers. Now united all the six chosen ones fight against a monster who can literally toss skyscrapers in their path. This champion level digimon has absorbed so much data it became this powerful. With a combined team attack they do manage to quell the danger. When the kids notice the blackout in Tokyo is still happening we see a few parts of eyesmon that did not get destroyed connect together again and it seems to digivolve into Orichimon.
The music and the battle here steal the spotlight in this episode. It is really great to see the group together again and see them combine their powers. With Eyesmon shaping and twisting the city around them it is a very interesting fight as well. Metalgreymon crashes into a building so when Atlurkabuterimon leaps over the next he finds out there is a subway on top.. Lillymon gets struck by a plane. Eventually the fight ends in complete surrealism where the city is formed into a sphere around the hero monsters. The music to accompany this all is great and it is done perfectly. It also works as a nice summary to see what everyone can do, and we see exactly how small Lillymon is next to all the other Ultimate digimon because there are a lot of great shows that offer us perspective! I do like these visual little things and it is one of the best fights yet! So on the action and personal front it was a great episode.
The DigiDestined have now gotten several big battles under their belts over the course of the reboot's first season. From a redeemed Ogremon to a digital Terminator to a wasp-themed Death Star, each and every one of the kids' Digimon have had the chance to make it the Ultimate level while fending off increasingly powerful threats. The latest episode of the reboot series, "The Dark Shadow of Tokyo Erosion," is no exception, but this time the group is woefully underprepared for what they're walking into.
At the end of the last episode, Tai, Mimi and Izzy found an escape route taking them from the Digital World back to the real one. Elated at seeing Tokyo back to normal following the power cut, Mimi's mind immediately turns to the joys of consumerism, insisting that she and Palmon go and get an avocado cheeseburger (a real product sold by Japanese Burger Kings) before returning home. Tai and Izzy, meanwhile, decide to head back to their family's apartments in Shibuya. The first warning sign that something is wrong is the fact that no-one around them reacts to the abnormal presence of three monsters following them around. The second clue is when the separate trains they take lead them back to where they started.
I thought this was a great episode. It actually felt like the plot was moving forward towards an actual story, instead of fairly self-contained episodes centred around speed-runs to Ultimate. I liked it a lot!

The uneasy feeling continues when they reach Shibuya. No one seems bothered by the digimon, which Koushironotices. However, they still decide tocontinue to their homes and we learn Mimi lives in Shibuya itself!
The list to all of the episodes in Digimon Adventure can be found here with a minor description in each of them. Along with descriptions also you can find the original air date for Japan and the air date in English versions. The Japanese name will be given in a translated form as well.
The episode actually had good animation, the battle was well executed and interesting, but the real problem was in the writing. By focusing more on the battle, there was little effort put into the rest of the story, as in, having the story make sense. They ignore the fact that they are supposed to be in a tournament where millions of people are watching the battle. We know Hinoken and Fireman are dirty cheaters and they need to use tricks in order to defeat Rockman who was kicking their ass in the beginning of the episode, but here is the thing, NOBODY IN THE TOURNAMENT REALIZED HE WAS CHEATING WHEN IT WAS OBVIOUS! 781b155fdc
