Microsoft Security Essentials Beta

Now, the beta is available for download if you are a Windows Live ID member and have selected the english and Brazilian Portuguese languages. If you do not have a Windows Live ID or do not speak english or brazilian portuguese then you need a standalone version. This is available from the same site as above.
Ironically, if you opt-out of using the beta version of MSE you will find yourself locked out of being able to download the final version. It works as expected and one of the major changes is that MSE will effectively replace Windows Defender, and provide a second line of defense against malware that scales from malware that is downloaded to viruses found automatically on the machine.
This new security suite is entirely free and does offer a somewhat reduced set of features but for those that can't afford the paid version of Windows Defender or simply don't want to give Microsoft access to their PCs, MSE may be for you. You will need to remember that some of the features currently being rolled out in the beta may not make it into the final release, so stay tuned.
We expect that this early release will lead to an extraordinary summer in MSE's growth in popularity and coverage. Something tells me this beta will be a bit more popular than the free MRG tool, although that still remains to be seen. One wonders if BetaMSE will follow the eventually-successful lead of M Eureka! and become a full fledged free (ok, you can pay for the premium points options) version of Windows Defender. d2c66b5586
