With spring tryouts around the corner for multiple sports, there are multiple key things to take note of during the application and actual tryout process. Each sport has a different requirement but all teams require a physical form as well as registration through HomeCampus.com
To avoid conflict, each sport has a different deadline for registration which can be found on the Amador Athletics page along with other important information. There will also be a makeup period for forms from February first through the third in which any late forms across all sports can be submitted.
Tryout and deadline dates vary across sports so it is essential to make contact with the coach or manager of your desired sport. They will have more specific information pertaining to you outside of the general application process.
At HMS, there are 4 sports that compete during the Spring season: Baseball, Softball, Girls Soccer, and Track & Field. Try-outs will take place for the Spring sports March-April; interested students should pay close attention to the announcements for more details, or refer to the individual team pages.
With 13 varsity teams competing simultaneously during the spring, the spring sports season is a busy time for Westminster athletes. There is always something going on, whether it be a track meet, a tennis match, or a soccer game. More often than not, those matches, meets, and games end in Westminster victories. The wildcats have especially strong spring sports with five of our ten state championships from last year coming in the spring.
In the quest for improvement and wins, the teams battle inconsistent weather throughout the spring season. It can storm one day, and be 85 degrees and sunny the next. Crew in particular struggles with weather conditions because they practice on the Chattahoochee river. Dr. Darlak, Mr. Griest, and Mr. Kazlow have coached the Westminster crew team through regatta competitions up and down the East coast this season. The crew cats have enlisted a strict training regime, including running, erging (using a rowing machine), and strength training on days when they are not out in the river. You can catch them in Philadelphia in May, the weekend before exams for the Stotesbury Cup.
The Westminster boys and girls golf teams have been out on the course every day for the past few months, preparing for the state tournament. In the spring of 2021, the boys won state and the girls placed fourth, and they are confident that they can both improve from last year.
The Westminster baseball team, coached by Chad Laney, is also working hard this spring. They have faced considerable competition and boast a record of 10-10 as of April 18. The batcats are ranked third in their region and will advance to the playoffs, but will have to fight through some tough games to advance.
The Spring season is composed of five weeks of round-robin play and one guaranteed BYE week to accommodate participants with spring breaks. A team's results during the regular season determine seeding for the postseason playoffs. The team that wins the postseason tournament is awarded intramural championship T-shirts on the final night of the tournament.
The Spring sports season has arrived and anticipation is growing with the full schedule ahead. Track and field, baseball, girls and boys soccer, girls tennis, and boys golf kicked off on Friday March 18th, 2022. Three Spartan coaches share their goals and ambitions for the season.

Organized sports activities help children develop and improve cognitive skills.* Physical activity, in general, is associated with improved academic achievement, including grades and standardized test scores. Further, such activity can affect attitudes and academic behavior, including enhanced concentration, attention, and improved classroom behavior.**
