Canvio Setup A quick start guide is included with the Canvio. It first instructs you to power up the device and connect it to a router. The next step is downloading the Canvio software from Toshiba's website, the Canvio Home Windows Launcher. There are versions for Windows (reviewed here), Mac, Android, and iOS.

The launcher detects Canvio on the network and installs the appropriate software. In the middle of my setup process on a Windows 7 system, a message appeared asking if I wanted to download the user manual. I'm not sure why that would display in the middle of an installation. A more appropriate point would be before (or after, for that matter). I certainly didn't want to interrupt the installation to grab a PDF. Still, it gets kudos for the easy remote access, and it does have all the basic features of a consumer NAS.
