as with the windows xp bootcamp insatllation my grahics card the ATI RADEON PRO HD 2600 shows up under device manager as the Ati MOBILITY 2600 XT, this is NOT correct and wasnt correct when i had windows xp installed via bootcamp but the online trick/fix worked by installing the newer updated drivers for the ATI RADEON HD 2600 PRO by manually pointing the installer to the newly download drivers for xp and once that was done my card read correctly under the device manegr in xp and my performance was quadrupled !!!! however since i have now installed Windows 7 64 bit,the same problem appears agin but when i download the correct 64 bit windows 7 drivers form the ati site and even the dedicated bootcamp windows 7 64 bit drivers nad attempt to point the installer to them the error appears "This driver does not appear to work with this version of windows" so basically the old xp bootcamp fix doesnt work with windows 7 64 bit with bootcamp running. There has got to be an easy workaround or fix for this! Tons of windows 7 64 bit bootcamp users are experienceing this install error and without the driver being installed and updating the card to what it truly is and NOT THE MOBILITY VERSION THAT IS BEING DETECTED, we can all run games like before in xp with way better performace. until then we are all screwed and are forced to run the updated drivers for the mobility XT card. PLEASE PLEASE HELP US IF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM SAYING. look around on the apple bootcamp forums and you will see a bunch of people complaining about the same thing with no solution for over 2 years. i have sent an email to AMD formerly ATI requesting assistance but i am sur ethey will just blow me off. this is a very easy problem that could be fixed by a tech savy person. WHoever can fix this problem at least for me personally,i will gladly sned you at least $100 via paypal for your hard work and time. without this being fixed i have no choice but to buy anothermac with a better graphics card since the imac i have is not upgradeable beyond RAM. Like i said this was the same problem with windows xp in bootcamp before i installed lion. the fix worked. i dont want to hear that the card is NOT a true hd 2600 PRO whn i know it is and have succesfully used the driver hack before with awesome results. it is NOT a mobility card whatsoever. it is an ATI RADEON 2600 HD with 256 megs of VRAM,not the best but still ok to run even the latest pc games with bootcamp. Please please help me! Thank you very much in adfvance for reading this!
that seems to be another mobility driver!! it is NOT a mobility card!!! it is the ati radeon hd 2600 PRO 256 MB graphics card! what exactly is that file you sent me to download? is it a hotfix for the catalyst error? we just need a way to install the 64 bit windows 7 driver for the hd 2600 pro so that it is no longer recognized as the mobility XT and will now run as the correct radeon hd 2600 PRO(desktop card NOT laptop/mobility one)
i just uninstalled windows xp sp3 and deleted the bootcamp partition, used bootcamp assistant to reformat to the coorect size i has windows 7 before, and now am currently restoring my aufgust 4th windows 7 system with winclone. yes,i got it working in lion! go to :904 to download the modfied winlcone 2.3 version that works with lion. for all you windows 7 users, uncheck all the boxes in the winclone preferences but leave the radio button clicked for use mountable filesystem, uncheck compressed dmg! should work as usual to backup and restore windows 7 bootcamp partitions as before. my questio to "DRBST" i will attempt to do the modifed inf file instructions but for those having errors you and i could simply upload the enitre ATI folder after its been modified to work correctly and other could just paste it over their existing ATI folders at the root of theirt windows 7 disks, then skip to step5(updating the graphics driver, when they crowse to the modifed files we made,it should go through like it should. will make it very easy for others to do if they arent as tech savy as we are. thanks again sir for all your help and time in this matter. God Bless You! so excited if this works bc now instead of windows xp,i can run windows 7,utilizing my entire 4 gigs not xp's 3 gigs of ram and use the latest ati/amd driver for my correct ati radeon hd 2600 pro and continue to play the latest games via bootcamp even with my 4 year old imac!!! to DRBST look me up on facebook and i will most definitely add you as a friend this way we can communicate without putting our emails on here for all to see. my ichat name is justRSX,hit me up on there and i will send you my name on facebook! thanks again for everything.
So far so good,it was a little tricky but I go through it. I was even able to use winclone 2.3 to restore my windows 7 backup over my newly created xp one, winclone still works with lion,u just have to uncheck all the boxes in the preferences except for the radio button that says make a mountable dmg.download the hacked update winclone 2.3 from roaringapps.com. Cant belive we cant direct message each other through here. I will wait until were both on ichar to exchange contact info.ill leave ichat online for the next few days.what is ur ichat screenname? To install the 64 bit bootcamp drivers against apples wishes, the error that sayscant be installed on this hardware,u simply browse to the disk u made with lion with updated drivers, click open and go to the bin64 folder, then to packages, then to drivers, right click and select troubleshoot compatibility, let it complete then proceed with the install process.it worked for me with all previous bootcamp driver updates. The next problem I have is even though I updated with software update to the latest bootcamp drivers,i am showing two sets installed in the afd/remove programs list.almost like the updated drivers didnt overwrite the previous 2.0 drivers, therefor there are 2 sets running, could cause conflicts. Tonight I want to try and click uninstall remove on the bootcamp 2.0 driver package in the list and see if the older set goes away and then when I click about bootcamp control panel,it should display at least bootcamp 3.2 not 2.0. Once we are in contact I will send u whatever apps u want,i have a few windows 7 utilities that are priveless and keep windows running smoothly and efficiently.such as tuneup utilities 2011 ,advanced registry cleaner pro,and revo uninstaller pro.also paragon manager11 pro can backup, reatore and repair full clones of apple bootcamp partitions,! Last night I got copycat X which im told can also make bootable clones of bootcamp partitins, but when I ran it,bootcam) doesnt show up as a volume to click backup or clone with.i will play around more when I have time.winclone does seem to still work,if u do it the way I have been, but I want another cloning utility to use also, and one that isnt duscontinued like winclone and recieves regular updates.
eDamn it! I had a feeling that the hack was only renaming it and not actually installing the driver so that it can perform at the correct specs. I may just restore xp and continue where I left off.at least I know I can get it to work right in xp. To tell u the truth, the 64 bit windows 7 runs slower than the 32 bit xp sp3! Maybe if we can download the windows xp 64 bit bootcamp dedicated driver and extract the lines of code from that inf file and then use it with ur process it may run correctly.**** I wish someone from ati could actually speak english and understand our situation.this is their fault the drivers dont install correctly.dont they test that ****? Do u know any smart gpu guys that could help us?? This is getting ridiculous,if it would only install like it did in xp all would be fine.i think its due to the fact that windows 7 ***** and isnt at a point with sp1 where things work as they should maybe with sp2 it wil be resolved.thanx for ur help,at least the teo of us know what is going on and what needs to happen to make ecerything work right.have u tried running a deceny game that ran well when we had the xp hack we did previously.ive only tried one game and it ran choppy, slightly better after our mod but still not like I remember itto be
BTW check out this post about the same issue with the grapics card eror and the fact that this guy has 32 bit windows 7 ultimate,he claims it installed perfectly and is getting the higher fps with the correct driver installed. should i reformat my windows 7 partiton to 32 bit instead of 64 and then try it? may be our best option, maybe our 4 year old imacs cant hang with windows 7 64 bit. 2b1af7f3a8
