However, ModelSim PE optional features are not supported in the ModelSim-Altera Edition software and the simulation performance of the ModelSim-Altera Edition software is slower than that of the ModelSim PE/DE software.

I recently completed a large distribution center modeling project using FlexSim simulation software. I was extremely impressed by the support that I received and the flexibility of FlexSim to model this complex (and massive) system. In the end, the project was considered a success and great investment by the client. The project team was able to use the model to validate the concept design performance over the planning period, identify opportunities for design improvement, and clarify/refine a shared understanding of how the system will actually work. I would highly recommend FlexSim as a modeling tool for large-scale systems based upon this experience.
The simulation software market was valued at USD 7.80 billion in 2020, and it is expected to reach USD 15.09 billion by 2026. The market is expected to witness a CAGR of 11.68% during the forecast period (2021 - 2026). Initially, simulation software was only used to tweak production lines. But in the current market scenario, it is being used to test new concepts, accelerate product developments, and demonstrate regulatory compliance.
The simulation software market appears to be highly competitive, with the presence of many domestic and international players. The key strategies adopted by the major players in the market are product innovation, mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships. Some of the key developments in the market are:
Because process mining and simulation appear to be such a great match, I have teamed up with Geoff Hook from Lanner, an established predictive simulation company, to explore the combination of our process mining software Disco and their simulation software Witness.
The purpose of the project is to introduce Modelling and Simulation in the Pakistani industries to ease the decision making of the management. The management sometime are in a fix for a feasible solution for their company and are not able to develop their future strategies keeping in mind the fluctuation in supply and demand. For this purpose, three industries were selected i.e. Blood bank, Logistics company and a manufacturing company and Witness Simulation Software was selected for modelling and simulation. Case study method was used to conduct this research in which in-depth interviews were conducted to understand the process of the companies so that As-Is scenario could be modelled on the witness software. Once the As-Is scenario was validated by the data provided by the companies and all the stakeholders, what-if scenario was developed to get the feasible solution for the company in terms of time and cost.
ABC company management wanted to identify the bottlenecks in their Overland Express Logistics process and recommendations to reduce them to make the whole process efficient. For this purpose, the whole process of OLE operation was modelled on the witness software taking into consideration only one client and As-Is scenario was developed. The model was analyzed, and it was found that outbound operation has the bottlenecks in the process while the labors were also under-utilized. An automated system that was already used by a multinational company was recommended for the inbound as well as outbound operations and what-if scenario was developed. The system not only saved almost Rs. 13,000 per month for the company but also saved the time of the management for incorporating contractual labors everyday due to fluctuation in demand. The automated system can also reduce the manual handling of the shipment while also decrease the delivery time to the customers.
The PQR company has entered the master process market recently and wanted to make their existing capacity better and does not wanted to make capital investments to increase their capacity. For this purpose, their process was modelled on the witness software and after validation what if scenarios were developed. It was found that the throughput of the system was overall improved by 5.5% by reducing the maximum cleaning time to 360 minutes from 500 minutes.
It is recommended to use the licensed version of the software for future study as student version has the limitation on the number of elements due to which the whole processes were not analyzed in detail. The students can use the existing models for the future research and can tap the other processes of the industry in detail. Similarly, modelling and simulation could be introduced to more industries in future which could help them in decision making which was the core purpose of the project.

To provide an efficient elevator system, a variety of diverse and sometimes conflicting constraints have to be solved. This paper focuses on using discrete event simulation as a means to model and explore elevator dispatching strategies. Witness simulation software has been used as a test-bed for model building, simulation and some experimentation. Model building using Witness model elements is described in detail followed by two different elevator call strategies. The main steps in the methodology are described with reference to a single elevator servicing a five-storey office building. The elevator call strategies are simulated and results compared. It was found that the data set significantly skews the results and overshadows any efficiency gains that might be possible from the different dispatching strategies. The paper concludes with the need to carefully select the data set as the basis for simulation comparisons and outlines future work required. 2b1af7f3a8
